Service Point FAQs
What are Service Points?
Students can earn Service Points for their service and participation at school in an activity outside of the classroom. You can earn points for being in a club, fundraising for your elective, being in Student Council, participating in the Science Fair, and more. Your teacher sponsor can issue points to you based on your level of involvement, the work that was required, and how well it was performed. For example, if you are a member of the Diversity Club, you would ask Ms. Lai or Mr. Rope to issue you points. If you were a cast member in the musical this year, you would ask Ms. Sunderland to issue you points.
Please make sure to only go to your teacher sponsor during regularly scheduled meeting times, before school, lunch, or after school (not during your class time).
What is the purpose of tracking Service Points?
Points accumulate from 6th to 8th grade and students will have a running record of the activities they participated in throughout middle school. A Certificate of Service will be awarded at the end of 8th grade for students who earn 350 points or more.
We encourage students to track their activities to prepare for their 8th grade resume, high school and other program applications as needed.
Can you earn Service Points for being in an elective?
You can earn points for participating in an activity sponsored by your elective. For example, if you are in the AVID elective and you helped out with the Jamba Juice fundraisers, you could earn points. You would not, however, earn points for being enrolled in the AVID elective.
What if the activity sponsor is no longer at Giannini?
Check with your grade level counselor regarding these points. This is also why we encourage students to get their point sheets completed every year.
When is it due?
Service Point Sheets will be distributed and collected in Spring 2017.
Service Point Sheets for the 2015-2016 School Year are due to your grade level counselors by April 22nd.
If you need extended time, talk to your counselor!
